KIS Academic Coordinators


Barbara Block
High School Coordinator

Barbara has been at KIS for over 30 years and currently serves as the High School Coordinator. Her primary responsibility is to oversee the daily routine of Grades 9-12, which include classes, teacher observations, course selections, scheduling issues, student disciplinary challenges, and maintenance of class infrastructure, to list a few. In addition to her role as HSC, she continues to teach Middle Years Programme (MYP) Visual Art for Grade 10.

Over her time at KIS, Barbara has been involved in various teaching and administrative assignments, beginning in 1988, as a K-8 Art teacher. She was instrumental in introducing and establishing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) Visual Art Program and the IB MYP Visual Art program. She was also an assistant MYP Coordinator and ran the school’s Hiking program. She has organized and led many field trips, from Grades 5 to 11, focused on art, canoeing, tea plantations and outreach to orphanages.

Before joining KIS, Barbara taught in her native Canada for one year. Prior to that she worked with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) to help connect international students at universities to host families. She has also served as the President of the Board of Directors for Bethania Association in Kodaikanal for 10 years, while working at KIS.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) Degree specializing in Visual and Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree majoring in History and Visual Art from the University of Saskatchewan. She is also certified in MYP Category 2 and IBDP Category 2 Visual Art.


Kurian Alex
International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator

Kurian serves as the school’s IB DP Coordinator and is the Head of the English Department. He has over 20 years of teaching experience and is responsible for the operation of the IB DP curriculum at KIS. In addition to his IB DP responsibilities, he teaches IB English language and literature.

Prior to joining KIS in 2015, Kurian taught English Language Arts at the A.W. Brown Leadership Academy in Dallas, Texas for 8 years. Before that he was an Instructor of Rhetoric and Freshmen Composition (Writing) at the University of Texas. His teaching experience began in 1996 in Singapore, teaching English for the Cambridge ‘O’ and ‘A’ level programs.

Kurian holds a graduate degree majoring in Arts, Humanities and Literary Studies from the University of Texas. He completed his Master’s of Education, specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Central Oklahoma. Kurian also holds a Master of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language and Literature from the Loyola College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Kurian continues to equip himself for his role and further his knowledge in teaching English through a number of certifications. He is fully certified and licensed by the Texas State Education Agency (Austin, Texas) in the areas of English Language Arts, English as a Second Language (ESL), Social Studies, History and Special Education. He is also an IELTS Trainer certified by the British Council and holds a number of IB-related certificates for English Language and Literature, Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).


Graham Lambert
Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator

Graham is the MYP Coordinator at KIS and oversees all aspects of the MYP curriculum from Grades 6 to 10. He monitors changes and requirements to the MYP coming from the IB and ensures that these changes are implemented in the school. In addition to executing these changes, he provides information and training to teachers as required.

Prior to joining KIS in 2003, Graham taught Math at various schools across England. Graham completed both his Under-Graduate Degree in Math and Post-Graduate Degree in Education from Manchester University in the UK.


Andras Jo
K-8 Coordinator

Andras is responsible for the daily functioning of the Elementary and Middle Schools at KIS. He plays a key leadership role in establishing positive relationships amongst students, teachers, staff and parents. He assists, advises, supports, directs and gets involved in problem-solving, when and where required. In addition to his administrative role as a K-8 Coordinator, he also teaches English, Clarinet and Religious Education.

Andras began his teaching career in 1999 in KIS and attributes his teaching foundations to the multicultural, child-centered environment of KIS. Upon his return to Hungary in 2002, he filled various academic and administrative positions at a large Christian high school in Budapest (Lonyay) between 2002 and 2013. He has also worked with a multicultural consultancy organization, which gave him the opportunity to work with various NGOs and Schools in countries across Asia and Europe between 2013 and 2017.

Andras holds a Master of Arts Degree with a double major in English Language & Literature and Religious Education from Gaspar Karoli University in Budapest. He has also done two Postgraduate Diplomas in Mentoring (English as a Second Language) from ELTE University in Budapest and later in School Management from BME University also in Budapest. Additionally, he holds an LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music) in Clarinet.

During his free time, Andras loves playing clarinet and listening to music from around the world, especially jazz; clicking his camera and reading utopian science fiction novels.


Pearlin Joseph
Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator

Pearlin is the KIS PYP Coordinator and is responsible for the implementation and operation of the PYP curriculum. She works with the Academic Vice Principal, Heads of Department (HoDs) and teachers to plan the academic year and provides mentorship for PYP staff. The PYP provides a framework for the school to design a unique curriculum with concept-driven PYP Units of Inquiry.

Originally from Hyderabad, Pearlin joined the KIS community as a teacher in July 2007. Since then she has taught all five core subjects for our Elementary School students (Grades 1-5). Prior to joining KIS, she taught at various schools including, Ivy League Academy in Hyderabad, Woodside School in Ooty and Bishop Cotton Girls School in Bengaluru.

Pearlin holds a Master of Arts Degree from Madras University, Chennai and completed her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification from the American TESOL Institute. She has also completed her Bachelor of Education Degree from the Bharathiyar University in Coimbatore and her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Auxilium College in Vellore. In addition, she also holds a range of IB certifications and attended various IB Category 3 workshops for PYP.


Kirandeep Gour
Extended Essay (EE)/Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Coordinator

Kirandeep serves as the EE/TOK Coordinator and supports EE mentors and TOK teachers. She coordinates EE essentials for the IB DP and leads the TOK team in content development and assessment alignment. In addition to her role as Coordinator, she continues to teach Business Management for the IB Higher and Standard level.

Kirandeep has been teaching the IB curriculum since 2006 and joined the KIS community in 2015. Prior to joining KIS, she worked in IB educational institutions such as Pathways School, Gurgaon and GD Goenka World School, Gurgaon. Her corporate experience includes stints in Corporate Training and Public Relations.

Kirandeep holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Institute of Marketing and Management in New Delhi and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Delhi University. She is a certified IB Examiner for Business Management and completed the TOK course from the University of Oxford. She also holds a range of IB certifications for EE/TOK Essay Writing and Business Management.
