Position Description: High School Coordinator

Supervisor: Academic Vice-Principal

Department: High School

Purpose: Be responsible, in conjunction with the Academic Vice Principal, and IB / Curriculum Coordinator, for the functional, administrative and day to day needs of the high school program.

Selection Criteria

  • Graduate from a recognized university. M.Ed or advanced study in educational administration preferred
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience at the high school level (11 and 12); preferably with exposure to the international school context
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in a high school
  • Familiarity with an internally-assessed, credit-based secondary school program and boarding school environment
  • An understanding of the IB DP and MYP program requirements.
  • A strong sense of responsibility for the academic and pastoral welfare of the students
  • IT Literate
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with people, both nationals and internationals; pos-sess conflict resolution, large and small group management skills
  • Organizational skills, including the organization and effective management of electronic and paper records
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Possess confidence in oneself – to be able to think, plan, respond and act independently as necessary
  • Should be a life-long learner

Responsibilities

 Assist the Academic Vice Principal in the following
  • Maintaining, in the High School, an ethos of high standards for academic performance, social behaviour and moral character for students and staff, in keeping with KIS mission, philosophy and values
  • Providing in-service and professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Implementing curriculum and program review and development, in conjunction with the IB / Curriculum Co-ordinator in the High School
  • Ensuring regular supervision and evaluation of teachers; making recommendations for improvement as needed
  • Developing and monitoring budgets and spending for the High School
  • Allocating teachers to teaching assignments in the High School in conjunction with the Academic Vice Princi-pal and HoDs
  • Supervising resource development and acting as the central resource person in the High School
  • Orienting new High School teachers and students; liaising with transfer students’ former schools, as needed
  • Maintaining an effective program of evaluation and assessment of High School students’ achievement, aptitude and proficiency
  • Handling disciplinary matters related to the High School in consultation with the Vice Principal.
Organize, Coordinate and Evaluate the High School’s daily program in the following:
  • Organizing and monitoring general student and teacher routines (class schedules, room allocation, attendance, study halls, registration, class add/drop, grading, etc)
  • Supervising the development and coordination of the master schedule (individual student schedules, teacher schedules and room allocation)
  • Support the various departments in developing and implementing an effective educational program (curriculum development, semester plans, inter-departmental activities, resources) in conjunction with the Academic Vice Principal and IB / Curriculum Coordinator
  • Organizing and overseeing the High School section advisor program, assemblies, Parent-Teacher week-end, field trip activities, conducting examinations, etc
  • Supervising the completion and accuracy of records and reporting for High School students
  • Monitoring the progress and providing necessary assistance to student probation evaluation
  • Organizing regular High School section meetings and HOD meetings
  • Communicating with parents, dorm parents, the counselor, Learning Support staff, Activities Coordinator, STUDCO members and other KIS administrators on relevant High School matters; ensuring High School students receive support services as needed: counseling, ESL, remedial help, etc
  • Providing support and resources for High School teachers
  • Determining and adhering to the High School attendance policy
  • Assigning student lockers and monitoring their use
  • Supervising the placement tests at the beginning of a semester
  • Supervising the High School office staff
  • Representing the High School by attending the following meetings: Academic Affairs, ELT, student intervention meetings (staffings); HS teacher interviews, any other committee meetings, as required.
  • Coordinating substitutes for teachers on leave, detentions etc
  • Maintain a teaching load of up to 12 periods per six-day cycle, as needed
  • Fulfill any other responsibilities for the school as assigned by the Principal or Vice Principal
