Role:

The role is to plan, coordinate and oversee the KIS infrastructure projects and/or any other KIS building project.

Qualifications & Experiences

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of recognized university with degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Experience leading residential and institutional construction projects in Tamil Nadu
  • Competent knowledge of all aspects of construction from project inception to completion
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, or similar design software, MS Office and ability to present data and plans accurately and concisely
  • Ability to produce a variety of building plans necessary for contractors to correctly interpret building designs
  • Ability to generate accurate cost and time estimations and keep accurate records
  • Proficient with oral and written English and Tamil
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills with persons from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to lead a construction crew, to delegate, work with architects, as well as be a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree - Masters, A civil Engineering, Architectural or an Interior Design degree.

  • Establishing and participating in collaborative structures;
  • Utilizing data to make informed decisions;
  • Utilizing technology tools

  • Ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English (oral and written); fluency in spoken Tamil or willingness to undertake instruction preferable;

  • Understanding of drainage issues and building in area of high rainfall;
  • Possess cost-conscious and value-driven approach to building;
  • Possess knowledge of environmentally-sound building practices;
  • Experience dealing with town planning officials and other government agencies;
  • Experience making formal presentations or proposals to individuals or groups;
  • Possess a valid drivers’ license.

Reports To: Executive Administrative Manager
Coordinates With: Maintenance Manager, Human Resource Manager
Time Period: Initial 2-year contract, potential extensions after initial contract

Responsibilities

Instruction

A KIS staff is expected to provide quality instruction for the students at KIS in accordance with the school’s established curriculum, school policies and expectations. The person in this role:

  • Prepare building plans, cost and time estimates for KIS construction projects;
  • Seek building approval from KIS and concerned government bodies;
  • Send for and receive quotations from piece-rate contractors;
  • Prepare and maintain a budget for each project; approve and verify purchase orders;
  • Oversee quality and accuracy of construction works including quality of materials used, workmanship throughout the construction phase, following through from inception to completion;
  • Oversee the functions and performance of the Site Supervisor;
  • Communicate openly with KISCO, Properties, Finance Director, and Principal, as the case may be, regarding the status of KIS projects;
  • Quotations and tenders for all work as necessary;
  • Maintain relationships with contractors, government officials and others concerning KIS project and maintenance work as necessary;
  • Interview potential new and casual staff to ensure quality and fit, train and mentor new staff;
  • Any other duties assigned by the Principal or administration;
  • Be available on campus for at least 8 hours a day and be on call 24-hours a day;
  • In consultation with the Maintenance Manager, be responsible for setting up apartments / houses allocated to staff;
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance work;
  • Ensure adequate furnishing and equipment are provided;
  • Monitor on-going housing concerns;
  • Make recommendations to the Principal on housing new and continuing staff to ensure equity among houses is maintained;
  • Be responsible for maintaining current housing inventories;
  • Assist in arranging host families for new staff;
  • Hospitality for new staff;
  • Inspect staff houses and prioritize renovations; liaise with maintenance department to ensure progress with renovations;
  • Be responsible with the Maintenance Manager for the development of an on-going plan for staff housing maintenance appropriate to each unit;
  • Arrange for domestic help for incoming staff;
  • Assist all staff in their housing needs.

  • Implement decisions made in department- and school-committee meetings, as relevant to the department;
  • Follow the guidelines of the school’s protective behaviour policies and protocols and personal data protection policies and procedures, including reporting any situation that might constitute a health and/or safety hazard to students or school employees, and reporting any personal data breach;
  • To respect the confidential nature of discussions at staff meetings and other contexts in which sensitive information is likely to be communicated; particularly in terms of interaction with students;
  • The staff member is expected to perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Executive Administrative Manager, or Principal.
