Position Description: The Dean of Residential Life responsibility is to administer the residential life of the school and as a member of the Senior Management Team, to partake in making decisions for the school as per KIS By Laws, and in the spirit of Design ’18 and the Mission of the school. All Senior Management Team members are required to be Christian per By Laws.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Be a graduate of a recognized university in a relevant field

  • Training in education or public administration, desired

Professional Experience:

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in high school environment.

  • Specific knowledge and experience of school administration, student discipline, and implementing policy in a complex school community (such as an international boarding school)

Professional Skills:

  • Have effective oral and written communication skills with students of all ages, staff and parents

  • Ability to coordinate effectively and organize a wide range of information and activities

  • Ability to liaise closely and work well with various individuals and groups

  • Ability and flair for team building

  • Ability to approach problems creatively

  • Intimately understand intellectual, emotional and social development of children at all stages and appreciate the pressures and problems of children and the range of student matters in a boarding school

  • Be able to use various techniques for counseling and guiding students appropriate to various situations

  • Have keen appreciation for the inter-dependence of staff, students and administration to successful school operations

  • Be IT literate

  • Ability to lead meetings effectively

  • Ability to address groups effectively


  • To support KIS guiding principles

  • To administer the residential life of the school

  • To chair and convene the Disciplinary Consultative Committee and The Residential Life Committee or, to send a delegate

  • To oversee the discipline and well-being of students and their respective dorms.

  • To coordinate and liaise with the Food Services Manager regarding quality of food, the Travel Manager regarding the safety, planning and arrangements for student travel and Maintenance Department relating to the repair and upkeep of dormitory buildings, and preparation for school activities and events

  • To liaise closely with and advise residential staff in dealing with student matters

  • To oversee the day-to-day disciplinary procedures of the school according to the Disciplinary Policy and, in serious cases, consult and act with the Principal and Academic Vice Principal as appropriate.

  • To coordinate and disseminate to students, staff and parents all pertinent information about school rules and any policy relating to students.

  • To oversee and attend the meetings of the High School Student Council (STUDCO)

  • To plan, organize and coordinate the preparations for new dormitories, including the selection and purchase of dorm furnishings and equipment

  • To plan, prepare and oversee the Residential Life budget

  • To assist the Principal in the process of evaluating residential staff and others under the Dean’s supervision

  •  To be responsible to the Principal for his/her work and form part of the Senior Management Team

  • To carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time the Principal and the Council

  • To maintain clear and open channels of communication with the Principal, Vice Principal, Finance Director, Chaplain, Admissions Coordinator, Alumni Coordinator, and other administrators and all staff on matters of concern to the school
