Position Description: Promote a comprehensive understanding of health and wellness strategies so students can make good choices that prevent illness, obesity and addiction within the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programs. Fully support residential life in a boarding environment.

Preferred Academic Qualifications:

  • B.A/B.Sc. (or equivalent) in relevant academic field, MA desirable
  • Teacher certification from a recognized institution
  • B.Ed desirable
  • Professionally prepared in the field of school health education

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum three years teaching experience in Health at Middle and/or High School level preferably in an IB, multi-cultural or international context

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge and experience with IB Diploma or MYP will be valued
  • Ability to teach in other Social Studies subjects, preferred
  • Team player with ability to delegate and coordinate work
  • Willing to work creatively with available materials/ resources
  • Able to create and teach interdisciplinary lessons.
  • Understand the developmental characteristics, differences in learning styles and intelligence and adapt lesson planning and teaching appropriately
  • Capacity to support the goals and mission of KIS through his/her personal philosophy.
  • Demonstrate competence in the development, delivery, and evaluation of curricula that enhance health knowledge, attitudes, decision-making and problem-solving skills.


  • Support KIS guiding principles
  • Communicate the essential purposes/rationale of the school health program and advocate for school health education and the well being of adolescents.
  • Identify health needs, risks, and protective factors for adolescents.
  • Assess the effects of reinforcing factors that influence the health behaviors of adolescents (e.g., family, peers, media and the environment).
  • Participate in school wide, cross-curricular planning that focuses on the healthy development of adolescents.
  • Consider students’ health needs when planning curriculum and instruction
  • Plan ways to include life skills that are important for adolescents’ healthy development.
  • Reinforce health-related knowledge, life skills, and health-enhancing attitudes and beliefs.
  • Employ strategies that celebrate diversity and promote social health and well being.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate strategies when addressing sensitive health issues.
  • Apply strategies that actively engage adolescents in learning health-related skills.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health education for adolescents by assessing the health behaviors of adolescents through formal and informal measures.
  • Work collaboratively with all professionals in implementing a coordinated school health program.
  • Advocate for and implement school policies that foster the health, wellness, and safety of adolescents.
  • Serve as a role model by exhibiting positive health behaviors and participating in faculty/staff wellness opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource person to adolescents regarding their healthy development.
  • Help students locate reliable sources of information that promote healthy development.
  • Refer students with special health needs to appropriate health services (e.g., school doctor, counselor, or chaplain.)
  • Develop and present health education and promotion programs (training workshops, conferences school/ community presentations)
  • To be available for work on campus in good time to complete all necessary preparations and meetings before the start of the term.
  • To hand-over all relevant material l to the HoD / Coordinator upon departure from KIS
  • To respect the confidential nature of discussions at staff meetings and other contexts in which sensitive information is likely to be communicated – particularly in terms of interaction with students.
  • Support residential life of the school by chaperoning activities, clubs, field trips, camp, long weekend field day etc., and being advisor to a group of students.
  • Fulfill other duties as required by the Head of department/Vice Principal/Principal
