IB Career-related Programme (Grades 11-12)
At Kodaikanal International School (KIS), we offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IB CP), a unique educational pathway designed to combine academic learning with practical career skills. The IB CP provides students with the opportunity to focus on their future career aspirations while gaining a globally recognized IB education. This programme equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to succeed in both higher education and the workforce.
Rigorous and Practical Curriculum
The IB CP curriculum integrates academic studies with career-related learning, offering students the flexibility to pursue their passions while developing professional skills. Students are required to complete the following core components in addition to their career-related courses:
- Personal and Professional Skills (PPS): A course that encourages students to develop key skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Reflective Project (RP): A research-based project that allows students to explore an ethical dilemma related to their career-related studies, encouraging independent research and critical thinking.
- Language Development: Students are required to improve their proficiency in a second language, enhancing communication skills and cultural understanding.
Core Elements of the IB CP
The IB CP also includes three key core elements that ensure students gain a comprehensive educational experience:
Personalized Support for CP Students
The IB CP is both academically challenging and career-focused, and at KIS, we ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed. Our dedicated teachers and program coordinator design personalized learning plans and provide extensive resources to help IB CP students balance their academic and career-related studies effectively.
Structured Support and Personalized Guidance for CP Students
A dedicated 95-minute block is incorporated into the daily student timetable to facilitate focused work and online engagement with synchronous learning sessions. Each CP student is assigned a teacher specializing in their chosen career-related studies: a Business Management teacher for SUMAS students and a Visual Arts teacher for SCAD students. These teachers are responsible for:
- Meeting with each student at least once a week to monitor progress and provide personalized guidance.
- Collaborating with SUMAS/SCAD to ensure students fulfill their academic and professional responsibilities.
- Offering extra-help sessions during Fundamental courses to address any learning challenges not resolved with SUMAS/SCAD instructors.
- Supporting students in navigating challenges related to the applied components of their courses.
- Connecting with other CP teachers to share insights on student learning, aiming to optimize educational experiences across CP core components and DP courses.
This structured support system ensures that CP students receive comprehensive assistance tailored to their individual needs, promoting a balanced and successful educational journey.
Our IBCP Partners
We have strategically partnered with two institutions, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and the Sustainability Management School (SUMAS). These collaborations provide our students with unique opportunities to engage in specialized, career-focused studies alongside their IB coursework.
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)
SCAD is a renowned, accredited university offering over 100 academic degree programs across more than 40 majors, with campuses in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, as well as Lacoste, France, and online. Through our partnership, KIS students can enroll in university-level courses via SCAD's eLearning platform, earning college credits in art and design disciplines before completing their high school education. This early exposure to rigorous coursework fosters a smooth transition to higher education and provides a competitive edge in creative fields.
Sustainability Management School (SUMAS)
SUMAS, located in Switzerland and Italy, is a private, not-for-profit business school dedicated to sustainability in business management. Our collaboration with SUMAS allows KIS students to undertake Career-related Studies in Business and Sustainability, focusing on responsible management practices across various sectors. Students engage in live-streamed courses led by SUMAS faculty, participate in integrative projects, and are mentored by industry professionals, equipping them with the skills to lead in sustainable business practices.
These partnerships exemplify KIS's commitment to providing a comprehensive, globally aware education that aligns academic learning with professional aspirations, preparing our students for success in their chosen career paths.
The IB Career-related Programme (IB CP) at Kodaikanal International School provides a dynamic and practical educational pathway that combines academic rigor with real-world career training. This programme develops critical skills, fosters professional growth, and prepares students for success in both higher education and their future careers.
