Route 14:6 is a program that encourages people at a crucial stage in their lives to reflect on the way Christ lived and interacted with the world, and to ask the question: What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus?

The daily program starts with personal quiet time and a group Bible study before morning classes commence. Lunch is served at the dining hall on KIS main campus and the afternoon is spent there to interact with the school students and join in various enriching and creative activities such as sports, music and the arts. Evenings and weekends are free except for special occasions such as school concerts, drama productions, service opportunities or ministry activities.

The Route 14:6 curriculum is designed both to encourage exploration of who God is and to provide opportunities for reflection and personal growth. The learning units are all based on the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the Bible and are designed to encourage a deeper sense of discipleship to Him. They include topics such as: ‘Who am I?’, ‘Living in a foreign land’, ‘Called to Serve’, ‘Called to Worship’ and ‘Called to Witness’.

Throughout the program various excursions ensure a connection with the surrounding culture and community and allow for putting theory into a practical perspective. Places to be visited include Chennai, Mahabalipuram, Auroville, Pondicherry, Madurai, Poondi, Bangalore, Periyar, Munar, Cochin, Varkala, Kovalam and Kanyakumari. Participants will stay for two weeks in service projects of partner ministries in India; about ten days in an outdoor camp (see KIS Wilderness Camp); for seven days they will accompany an outreach ministry and they will join the KIS field trips as chaperones.

However, by far the majority of time will be spent within the group in Kodaikanal. The greatest experiences and deepest personal development is expected to take place through daily interaction with the other participants. Their diverse cultural, social and denominational background provides a mirror of today’s global realities. Tensions and challenges will occur but so will solutions grounded in the teachings of Christ, that should prepare the participants well for their future roles in our society. To further guide the Route 14:6 participants in this process the KIS Careers & College Advisor can provide professional advice and counseling for future career choices.

At the end of the program, it is hoped that the participants will come away:

  • Strengthened in their desire to be a disciple of Jesus
  • Empowered to minister, as Christ did, to this world

The Route 14:6 program is offered twice a year, from January to May and July to November.

Route 14:6 participants contribution of US$ 2800 includes: accommodation, provision of three meals a day, study materials, lectures, field trips, medical coverage for the duration of the program, as well as the provision of qualified, professional staff to support and facilitate the program.
