MYP activities
Care Day – Job Shadowing
The first semester began by celebrating Care Day on 3 August when students from grades 6 - 8 job shadowed our operational and some support staff for 4 hours during the morning. The afternoon of the same day was spent on reflecting their experiences in order to realize and appreciate how important each member of the community is.
Personal Project Fair
Our grade 10 students worked on their Personal Project since the 2nd semester of grade 9. Their work was displayed on 6 November 2007 and included a variety of final products on display such as an evening gown, music CD’s, music video, recipe book etc.
Area of Interaction Activities
Area of Interaction activities were held in the month of January on weekends.
Grades 6 - 8 students were put into groups with one area of interaction as their focus. Students were expected to create a poster depicting their understanding of the given area of interaction and to present a skit or poem or song based on that area of interaction.
Grades 9 students were put into groups and were provided with a table full of junk. In their groups they were expected to create a machine and to talk about how this machine connects to the different areas of interaction.
Community & Service Activities
Every student in the Middle Years Program is expected to do 10 hours of community and service each semester. Following are some of the activities where they earn community and service hours:
- Reaching out through computers
Every Tuesday and Wednesday students from a nearby local school come to KIS for computer skills training sessions taught by our Middle School students.
- Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a worldwide movement to assure every individual their fundamental rights which are preserved under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In KIS this is achieved by:
- Letter writing campaigns
- Human rights education
- Email petitions
- The environmental stewardship project
Students are working with Maintenance to help implement the revised waste management system where waste materials are sorted into green (recyclables),red (non recyclables) and blue (food) bins.
- Kodaikanal Residents Exnora Group
KIS has become the forerunner in the Exnora movement which works on the basic principle that every school should take on the responsibility for the immediate environment surrounding it. EXNORA has created a dynamic movement that motivates and empowers students in the drive to clean up the environment.
- The Middle year students can also integrate with SoEx department projects such as:
- Mercy Home
