KIS Elementary School Activities
KIS Elementary School seeks to develop all aspects of a child's intellect through activity whether in the classroom, in the playground or in structured extracurricular activities. Multiple intelligence theory underpins all Elementary School programming. Based on eight different types of intelligence, children exposed to stimulation in each of these multiple intelligences are more likely to achieve their full potential as life long learners.
KIS specifically addresses the following intelligences with group activities and collaborative learning and themed cross curricular project work.
- Linguistic - Language Arts
- Logical-Mathematical - Computing and computer instruction
- Spatial - Art through a variety of media
- Bodily-Kinesthetic - Age specific physical education program, 'hands on' learning
- Musical-Rhythmic - Strong classical and ethnic music program
- Interpersonal - Social Studies emphasizing corporative learning
- Intrapersonal - Personal and public health involving reflective learning
- Naturalistic - Science, with regular field trips and outdoor education activities
Out of the classroom KIS offers after school sports opportunities and weekend hiking programs in second semester, supplementing the age specific Physical Education classes.
Thanks to its boarding ethos, KIS Elementary School provides clubs and after school and / or evening activities. These vary with the interests and talents of staff, but have included board games, cricket, dance, cooking, crafts, biking, soccer, knitting, choir and drama. Weekend activities include movies, sports, interactive games, concerts, fairs and cultural events. |
