KIS Elementary School Mission 2006 KIS Elementary School strives to provide a holistic program and nurturing environment, where each child can develop intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. It is our goal that each KIS student will walk on the world stage, or in its quiet corners, caring, sharing and seeking justice. ES Curriculum Program
KIS Elementary School curriculum offers a core of academic subjects in language arts, mathematics, science and social sciences. KIS elementary learning environment is child-centered and its curriculum is enriched by a strong reading program, library and learning resources, English as a Second Language (ESL) where appropriate, art, music, physical education, computing and computer education, personal and social development and Christian values education.

Intellectual Development at KIS - KIS elementary academic program seeks to develop all aspects of a child's intellect. Theorists believe that there are eight different aspects to intelligence. Children need stimulation in each of these multiple intelligences to achieve their full potential.
Multiple intelligences at KIS - KIS specifically addresses the following intelligences with group activities and collaborative learning and themed cross curricular project work.
- Linguistic
Language Arts classes emphasize writing, reading, spelling and library skills
- Logical-Mathematical
Mathematics, computing and computer classes
- Spatial
Art classes using a variety of mediums and taught by professional artists and qualified art teachers
- Bodily-Kinesthetic
Physical Education classes develop coordination and athletic skills through an age specific physical education program emphasizing 'hands on' learning
- Musical
Classroom Music at all grade levels
Beginning piano instruction in grade 4
Choice of instruments in grade 5
- Interpersonal
Social Studies classes teach about other people and cultures. Students learn to cooperate with others in collaborative learning experiences and group activities
- Intrapersonal
Health classes teach children how to care for themselves
Assignments include personal reflection at each child's developmental level
- Naturalistic
Science classes and 'hands on' learning, in a lab with regular field trips and outdoor education activities
Special needs at KIS
Individualized instruction is provided for those identified with special learning needs through KIS English as a Second Language department and Learning Resources department. |
