Sport, PE & Leisure at KIS Sport
Sport is an important component in a boarding school community, offering opportunities for physical activity to students of all ages and providing them with access to the skills and knowledge for an active lifestyle.
- Opportunities for inter scholastic competition are available in track & field, volleyball, field hockey, soccer, basketball, cricket, tennis, badminton and table tennis
- KIS also has a well organized intramural sports program for internal competition
Bendy Field is where most of the action takes place - 200 square meters of well maintained turf that caters for a variety of sports. Covered courts on both academic campuses provide for volleyball, basketball and badminton. KIS Highclerc campus has 6 clay tennis courts, 2 squash courts and an all purpose indoor facility (Alumni Hall) providing for indoor hockey, gymnastics and badminton.
Students enjoy healthy competition among their peers and represent their respective houses in vibrant colors of orange, white and blue. Annual track and field competitions, gymnastics shows and inter school competitions allow students to have comprehensive exposure to their sport of choice.
Recreational opportunities are also important.
- Recreation equipment room provides ready access to multi sports equipment
- Golf and student transportation is available on request at the nearby 18 hole Kodaikanal Golf Club
- Loch End Fitness Center - thanks to the generous support of KIS Alumni, the Loch End Fitness Center opened in August 2008. The gym is outfitted with a fine commercial quality multi-station gym, two treadmills, two ellipticals, two upright bikes and two rowing machines. One half of the fitness center space is an open area surrounded by mirrors and a barre to accommodate dance and aerobic classes. Training on the equipment is incorporated into the Physical Education program; aerobic classes and current dance programs also have the opportunity to use this new space.
KIS K-8 School facilities include a grass field for soccer / hockey and a covered court for basketball, badminton and volleyball as well as a tennis court.
Some residential campuses additionally have tennis courts that are used for a variety of leisure activities.
PE (Physical Education) Program
For over a century, KIS has made its Physical Education (PE) program a priority, steadily developing and keeping abreast of advances in sports in general.
The KIS Physical Education program provides developmentally structured, comprehensive physical activities for students in Preschool through grade 12 coordinated through Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
Children and youth need and want to be physically active. KIS works hard to develop essential physical, mental, spiritual and social skills that promote lifelong participation in physical activity. Physical education at KIS is not just about coaching and / or sports exclusively but providing structured programs in which every student participates. At KIS, qualified PE teachers assess student knowledge, motor and social skills and provide instruction in a safe, supportive environment.
The KIS Physical Education program strives to elicit the best from every individual. |
