Surrounded by such stunning physical beauty on and off campus KIS has a long tradition of excellence in art. This is reflected in the numbers of students taking art as an academic subject to its highest level and the caliber of art staff attracted to KIS.
The Art program is taught by 3 full time qualified art teachers all of whom are exhibiting artists.

- Computer graphics laboratory with 3 workstations and 12 computers (Computer Graphics is taught both as an elective and with advanced art)
- Photographic darkroom for students taking specialist or elective photography
- High School mini theater as an instructional aid to compliment studio arts

KIS has an annual major exhibition of IB student art work held in the 'KMU', an Edwardian heritage architectural jewel and memorial to the Kodaikanal Missionary Union which gave life to the school.
Drama
Drama at KIS has enjoyed a long and illustrious history. From the halcyon days of operettas to contemporary hits such as Phantom of the Opera, the school has always endeavored to present a wide range of productions.
This is expressed in at least two major productions a year, involving all sections of the student population as well as staff performances and technical assistance. The most recent years have seen such well known works as Seussical, Toad of Toad Hall and Big the Musical to mention only a few.
Dramatic arts is practiced and performed in a large multi-purpose space called the Alumni Hall. Previously the ‘Gym’, it was rebuilt in the mid 1990s as one of the first major capital fund raising projects by KIS Alumni. Redesigned as a multi purpose hall, it is now in constant use for indoor sports, PE and the performing arts. In recent years audio and lighting systems have been further upgraded particularly enhancing production quality. A new space fondly named the “Box” has been renovated to provide students with their own stage and practice area for drama classes. |
