KIS Travel Office
KIS is fortunate in having a fully staffed Travel Office to coordinate all student, staff and community travel. Our travel partner 'Round the World Travel' is an India-wide agency with decades of experience in providing national and international travel options to and from KIS.
KIS Travel office is responsible for arranging all official trips. Four times a year over 500 students and family members are transported from over 30 countries to and from Kodaikanal International School's relatively isolated location in the South Indian Palani Hills. Airport, railway and bus station transfers are available to staff, students and their families on request. KIS owns two buses registered as 'institutional vehicles' which are used as needed for student and staff transport.
Additionally KIS has the unusual tradition of whole school annual cultural field trips in September, taking hundreds of students, staff and volunteers on week long group activities to more than 15 different locations around India in the same week. Arrangements for staff professional development travel, contract staff home leave, subject specific field trips and excursions are also coordinated by the KIS Travel office.
All personal travel requests can be arranged with the help of KIS travel partner - Around the World Travel.

KIS Travel Office Responsibilities
KIS Travel office is also responsible for registering all foreigners who arrive in India on employment and student visas with the Registration Office at nearby Dindigul. Government regulation requires that all foreigners are registered within 14 days of their arrival in India and failure to do so will invite a penalty of USD $30. Foreign passport holders need passports and 8 photographs each to complete the formalities.
KIS Travel office also arranges police clearance for students and staff members prior to overseas travel. Appropriate applications must be submitted to the Foreigners Registration Office through the local police station accompanied by a photocopy of the air tickets. Police clearance will not be given without proper procedures in place.
Visa extensions (staff and dependents only) are done 3 months before visa expiry date. The extension process passes through various bureaucratic desks: Kodaikanal police station, Superintendent of Police Dindigul, Collector's Office, security clearance at Chennai Government of Tamil Nadu and finally Ministry of Home Affairs - New Delhi. These processes may take several months. All travel arrangements are best planned well in advance.
