For over 100 years, Kodaikanal International School has attracted a diverse and highly qualified staff with its academic reputation, the safety, seclusion and beauty of Kodaikanal and the unusual warmth of its international community life. We continue to attract a caliber of academic staff with which few international schools can compare. The staff represent a similar richness of cultural diversity to that of the student body, currently drawn from Australia, Bhutan, Canada, France, Germany, India, Hungary, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tibet, UK and USA. Staff include administrators, full-time & part-time academic, residential parents, student services, administrative and development staff (and a changing number of interns and volunteers), support staff, security, food services and maintenance staff.
KIS is committed to helping its staff to grow professionally. Every week, one hour is set aside for school staff professional development, during which they have the opportunity to learn from subject specialists and to share their knowledge with each other.
KIS regularly participates in the IB (International Baccalaureate) and NESA (Near East South Asia) conferences in India, South Asia and Europe. Staff members are encouraged to further their education through ongoing university studies where possible.
KIS runs New Staff Orientation programs for all new staff and families before the start of each semester. We try our best to integrate new staff into community life at KIS as soon as possible. Each new staff member is met by a KIS host or host family upon arrival who is responsible for looking after new staff members and assisting with any settling in needs for the first few weeks. KIS Human Resources is actively involved in greeting new staff members and is in communication with new staff and families well before arrival at KIS regarding their relocation and travel arrangements as well as any refurbishment preferences.
